Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presented the 2025-26 budget in the state Assembly on Tuesday, highlighting ten key focus areas, including infrastructure development, electricity, roads, and water supply.
This is the first budget for the national capital presented by the newly formed Bharatiya Janata Party-led government.
While presenting the Budget in the state assembly, Chief Minister Gupta described it as a “historic budget” for the Delhi government. “This is not just an ordinary Budget; it is the first step toward revitalizing Delhi, which has been neglected over the past 10 years. During the previous decade, Delhi’s development declined in every sector. The previous government undermined the economic health of the national capital like termites,” said Gupta, who also holds the Finance portfolio.
This year’s budget, totaling ₹1 lakh crore, represents a 31.5 percent increase from the previous one. Emphasizing that the days of “corruption and inefficiency” are behind, Chief Minister Gupta announced that the capital expenditure budget has been doubled to ₹28,000 crore.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized key areas such as healthcare, education, and road repairs in her budget presentation. However, some of the much-awaited announcements for Delhi netizens, including a concrete plan to tackle pollution, free cylinder distribution during Holi and Diwali, and welfare and insurance coverage for gig and domestic workers, were notably absent from the manifesto.
Key highlights of the budget include an allocation of ₹2,144 crore to provide an additional ₹5 lakh insurance coverage to individuals under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. The much-anticipated ₹5,100 crore allocation for the Mahila Samruddhi Scheme was also announced, which will offer ₹2,500 per month to eligible women in the city. Additionally, ₹210 crore has been earmarked for the pregnant women’s scheme.
