During the G20 Summit in Delhi, most Delhi Metro stations will remain operational, with the exception of the Supreme Court station, which will be temporarily closed for security reasons. However, some stations may experience temporary entry and exit closures, but train services will continue to operate.
The G20 Summit in the national capital will bring about commuter inconveniences, including metro station closures and bus route diversions. Officials have confirmed the complete closure of one metro station and have hinted at the possibility of additional restrictions.
“Delhi Metro services will be affected at the Supreme Court metro station only. Metro services will continue at all other stations. At some metro stations, entry and exit may be closed for 10-15 minutes as per the security rules, but train services will continue,” said Delhi Traffic Special CP Surender Yadav.
DCP Metro previously raised security concerns, resulting in the recommendation to temporarily close the gates of more than 20 metro stations. In an official communication between the police and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, it was stated that from September 8 to September 10, gates 1, 2, and 3 of Khan Market station, gates 2 of Moti Bagh station, and five gates of ITO station (among others) were deemed necessary to be closed to enhance security.
Specifically, the letter called for gate number 4 to be open for entry and exit at Khan Market station. At Kailash Colony station, gate number 2 is to be closed, and at Lajpat Nagar metro station, all gates except gate number 5 will be closed. Janpath station was labeled as ‘sensitive,’ and only gate number 2 will be operational. Additionally, all gates of Bhikaji Cama Place station are to be closed.
Notably, no restrictions on entry and exit are expected at stations such as Aero City, Dhaula Kuan, South Campus, Dwarka Sec-21, Panchsheel Park, Chirag Delhi, Greater Kailash, Nehru Enclave, Kalkaji Mandir, Rajiv Chowk, Chawri Bazar, and Chandni Chowk.
Furthermore, road transportation will also be affected during the event, with officials announcing some diversions.
“The control of the ISBT buses, we will be implementing from 5 AM in the morning of September 8. They will not be allowed to enter from the Gurugram side, they will be diverted from IFFCO chowk towards MG road and from there they will enter through Mehrauli. The controlled zone will not have the facility of city bus service,” Surender Yadav added during the briefing.
