On Day 6 of the Paralympic Games in Paris, India celebrates a groundbreaking performance in the Paralympic Games in Paris. India has crafted new history by surpassing its previous best medal count, for the first time, reaching a remarkable total of 20 medals.
This milestone was achieved by exemplary performance from Indian track and field athletes, lifting the nation to 17th place in the overall standings. The haul included 3 golds, 7 silvers, and 10 bronzes.
Javelin Throw
The extraordinary performance by Javelin throwers Ajeet Singh Gurjar made significant contributions, they secured silver and bronze in the F46 category. This category features athletes with moderate movement impairments in one or both arms or missing limbs.
Another medal was won by India through Mariyappan Thangavelu, he added bronze to his collection in the men’s high jump T63 final.
His recorded a jump of 1.85 meters.The T63 category is for athletes with moderate impairment in one leg or missing limbs above the knee.
Women’s 400m
One more bronze medal was added by Deepti Jeevanji in the women’s 400m T20 event, clocking 55.83 seconds. Deepti who has intellectual impairment has proven her resilience and talents through this extraordinary achievements.
Ace shooter Avani Lekhara, who previously clinched gold in the 10m air rifle event, narrowly missed a podium finish in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions SH1 event, placing fifth. Despite this, Lekhara’s achievements remain remarkable, as she made history as the first Indian woman to win consecutive Paralympic gold medals.
