Tensions prevailed across two cities in Maharashtra on Friday as protests against the atrocities committed against Hindus and minorities in Bangladesh took a violent turn. According to the reports, two groups in Nashik collided during a bandh called by the ‘Sakal Hindu Samaj.’ The skirmish led to the stone-pelting, which left 18 policemen and several people injured. The clashes took place in the Bhadrakali area, where police fired tear gas shells and used force to disperse the mob.
Speaking with news agency PTI, Nashik police commissioner Sandeep Karnik said, “Six tear gas shells and one rubber bullet were fired to disperse the crowd. Around six police officers were injured. Police personnel, including State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) jawans, were deployed in the area to maintain peace.”
Violence in Jalgaon
Stones were thrown at a vehicle showroom in Jalgaon during a protest march organized by the Sakal Hindu Samaj against anti-Hindu violence in Bangladesh. The incident took place on Saturday with unidentified individuals targeting a two-wheeler showroom, according to officials.
The situation, initially tense, was quickly brought under control after police intervention. In response, additional police forces were deployed throughout the city as a precaution.
The protest was followed by reports of increasing violence against Hindu communities in Bangladesh, following the ousting of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government on August 5. Since then, the Bangladesh National Hindu Grand Alliance has reported threats and attacks against the minority community in 278 locations across 48 districts.
