As the NIA has not yet filed a chargesheet in the Red Fort blast incident, despite the completion of three months since the deadly blast unfolded, claiming the lives of at least 13 people, a Delhi court on Friday granted 45 more days to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to file a chargesheet in connection to the blast.
The judicial custody of seven accused, namely, Amir Rashid Mir, Jasir Bilal Wani, Mufti Irfan Ahmad Wagay, Dr. Muzamil Shakeel Ganie, Dr. Adeel Ahmad Rather, Dr. Shaheen Saeed, and Soyab, has also been extended till March 13.
The court recently permitted the NIA to question Yasir Ahmad Dar, the ninth person arrested in the case. Meanwhile, the custody of co-accused Bilal Naseer Malla was also extended.
“…during investigation, it was revealed that the deceased and the…accused persons, along with other co-accused persons, conspired with each other for propagating the Islamic ideologies of Ansar Ghazwat-Ul-Hind (AGH) and collected arms and ammunition and explosive materials in furtherance of their intention to commit terrorist acts in various parts of India, including Delhi,” the NIA has submitted before the court.
“…based on their disclosures… coupled with extraction of data from their social media… after procuring duplicate SIMs earlier used by the accused… Incriminating seizures and recoveries were made, and these recoveries revealed the names of several suspects who were part of the larger conspiracy. Details of the association and involvement of such suspects are required to be discovered,” the agency submitted.
The Central Agency earlier reached the court of Additional Sessions Judge Prashant Sharma of Patiala House, which sought a 90-day extension to complete its investigation. The court, however, granted only a 30-day requested period and asked the agency to conclude the probe within the deadlines. The premier investigation agency’s plea asked for an “extension of the investigation and custody remand period beyond the statutory period of 90 days, up to 180 days,” in accordance with the provisions of the UAPA and Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), regarding the seven accused.
The Red Fort blast occurred in a Hyundai i20 car at the Subhash Marg traffic signal nearby. Following this, the “white collar” module was burst. On December 14, 2025, the Tribune reported that the possibility of an unidentified Pakistan-based outfit being behind the incident is not being ruled out.
