Tejaswini Rao, a Class 10 student from Vasavi Vidyaniketan in V V Puram and a resident of Kempegowda Nagar, tragically lost her life in an accident around 12:45 pm. The incident occurred when a construction support pole from a six-storey building near National High School Road, close to the National College Metro station, collapsed and struck her. Two pedestrians nearby narrowly avoided injury.
Passersby quickly transported Tejaswini Rao to NIMHANS hospital, but she was pronounced dead around 2:15 pm due to her injuries. Her father, Sudhakar Rao, filed a complaint accusing the builder of negligence and inadequate safety measures at the construction site. In response, the police have filed an FIR under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act, charging death due to negligence.
Authorities are currently examining CCTV footage from the area and awaiting a forensic science laboratory report to determine the exact cause of the accident. The police have seized the wooden survey pole involved and are working to identify the property owner while reviewing construction-related documents.
The police have cordoned off the area and instructed construction workers to implement additional safety measures, including the installation of a safety net around the building to protect pedestrians. The VV Puram police are awaiting a formal complaint from the family before advancing with the investigation.
In a similar incident, four children were injured when the plaster ceiling of an anganwadi building collapsed in Karnataka’s Kolar district. The injured—Likhita, Parinitha, Sanvi, and Charitha—were promptly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, as reported by PTI.
Muniraju, Karnataka’s Child Development Officer, assured that immediate action would be taken to repair and restore anganwadi buildings across the district to prevent future incidents.
