In a tragic event, three coaches of theSecunderabad-Shalimar Superfast Express derailed near Howrah in West Bengal early this morning. The train derailed in Nalpur, about 40 km from Kolkata at around 5:30 am. The coaches include a parcel van and two passenger coaches – a third AC economy and third AC.
“A parcel van and two coaches of 22850 Secunderabad-Shalimar Weekly Express derailed while passing through Nalpur station of Kharagpur Division at 5.31 am today,” said South Eastern Railway (SER) in a statement.
“Today morning at 5:31 am, Secunderabad Shalimar Weekly Express Train derailed while going from the middle line to the down line. One parcel van and two passenger coaches have derailed. No major injury or casualty has been reported,” CPRO, South-Eastern Railway, Om Prakash Charan said.
The tragic incident unfolded when the train was crossing over from the middle to the outer tracks as reported by the SER spokesperson Omprakash Charan Sai.
An accident relief train and medical relief trains from Santragachi and Kharagpur reached the incident site and buses were also arranged to take the passengers to their destinations.
The official stated that some express and suburban trains were delayed due to the accident, and a helpline (032229-3764) has been set up at Kharagpur for assistance.
