Hindu Man, Chanchal Bhowmik, Burnt to Death in Bangladesh’s Narsingdi

Date:

A 25-year-old Hindu man identified as Chanchal Bhowmik was set ablaze and killed on Friday night in Narsingdi, Bangladesh, while sleeping in the garage, the authorities said. Narsingdi Police Superintendent Abdullah Al Faruque told ANI that suspicious activities had been detected in the CCTV footage.

“We have collected footage from the CCTV cameras and observed that there is a scene showing a person moving around. We are investigating whether the fire was caused by some external factor or by an electrical fault,” he said while talking to ANI.

The fire services, in order to rescue him, broke the shutter, but till then the deceased’s body was burnt to death.

The further investigation is underway to know the exact reason for the fire, whether it was caused by an electrical fault or from an “external factor.” No arrests have been made till now.

Notably, there has been a surge in the atrocities on Hindu communities in Bangladesh. On December 18, a man named Dipu Chandra Das was tied to a tree, set on fire, and lynched over rumors of blasphemy that eventually proved to be false.

Another incident surfaced where a 40-year-old Hindu grocery shop owner was sliced down with a sharp weapon, the local media reported.

In yet another case, a Hindu man, identified as Mithun Sarkar, was accused by a mob of theft, which eventually resulted in Sarkar jumping into water to escape the mob. These details were confirmed by Naogaon Police Superintendent Mohammad Tariqul Islam in a statement shared with ANI.
