On late Saturday night, a violent outburst claimed 3 lives and injured 5 in Manipur’s Bishnupur District.
According to officers, the event happened late on Saturday night in Khoijumantabi village while the “village volunteers” watched the area in a makeshift bunker.
Although just two bodies were discovered initially, the third one was eventually located.
In the lengthy shootout that lasted many hours, five persons were hurt. They were taken to an Imphal hospital, where some were described as having bad conditions.
In order to assess the situation and engage with the residents, Chief Minister N Biren Singh visited the area.
The ethnic conflict between the Meitei and Kuki communities in the northeastern state has already claimed the lives of more than 100 individuals.
The majority of Meiteis, who make up around 53% of Manipur’s population, reside in the Imphal Valley. Another 40% of the population is made up of the Naga and Kuki tribes, who live in the hill districts.
This incident is a grim reminder of the ongoing ethnic conflict between the Meitei and Kuki communities in Manipur, which has already claimed the lives of over 100 people.
Manipur’s population is comprised mostly of Meiteis, who reside in the Imphal Valley, while the Naga and Kuki tribes make up a significant portion of the population in the hill districts.
