Gurugram, Nuh 19/08/2023: Bittu Bajrangi, a self-proclaimed cow vigilante, has been placed under 14-day judicial custody after his arrest in connection with recent communal conflicts in Nuh. The arrest followed his appearance in a Nuh court, where he was subsequently sent to Neemka jail in the Faridabad district.
The accused, known as Bittu Bajrangi but also referred to as Raj Kumar, was apprehended in Faridabad on Tuesday after a new First Information Report (FIR) was lodged against him at Nuh’s Sadar Police Station. The complaint was filed by Assistant Superintendent of Police Usha Kundu. Notably, during the arrest, eight swords were seized from Bajrangi’s possession.
The FIR outlines that Bajrangi, along with unidentified supporters, confronted an ASP Kundu-led police team, wielding swords and ‘trishuls’ (tridents), as they were en route to Nalhar temple. Bajrangi had previously been detained by Faridabad Police for his involvement in the clashes and released on bail after cooperating with the investigation. He was initially accused of delivering inflammatory speeches and publicly displaying weapons.
In her complaint, ASP Usha Kundu recounted, “My team and I were stationed approximately 300 meters away from Nalhar temple on duty. We observed a group of about 20 individuals, armed with swords and trishuls, marching towards Nalhar temple. In an effort to maintain law and order, my team intervened and confiscated their weapons.” Kundu further detailed that upon confrontation, the mob turned hostile, verbally and physically assaulting the police team and managing to reclaim their confiscated weapons from police vehicles.
“We kept their weapons in our vehicles but they went ahead and squatted in front of vehicles. Soon after they opened the rear gates of our official vehicle and fled with weapons. Bittu and others who had misbehaved with us and threatened to kill us were identified in the footage,” ASP Kundu said in her complaint.
Nuh superintendent of police Narender Bijarniya said Bajrangi was questioned regarding his involvement in the communal violence.
“Bajrangi revealed details of the religious procession that was taken out on July 31. He confessed that he along with his associates were carrying swords. His associates have been identified and booked by Nuh police. We already had social media footage of the suspects, but only Bajrangi was identified. He assisted us in identifying the other suspects,” the SP said.
