With the surge in assaults and lynching of the Muslim community, another case has surfaced, sending shockwaves to the nation and grabbing headlines. A Muslim woman, along with her two minor children in Bihar’s Rohtas district, has allegedly died by suicide on Tuesday by consuming poison, as she was unable to cope with the trauma of her husband’s lynching and the threats it followed from the accused.
The deceased, identified as Reshma Khatoon, allegedly consumed poison with her four-year-old daughter, Taiyba, and one-and-a-half-year-old son, Hamzad. The incident took place late Monday night at her residence.
The incident came to light when, on Tuesday morning, neighbors grew suspicious after observing that no movement inside the house was seen for an extended span of time. When they intervened, they found that all the three were unconscious. They were immediately taken to a private clinic in Raj Colony, Sasaram.
With their condition deteriorating, they were referred to Varanasi for specialized care, where Reshma Khatoon succumbed. Her two children remain critical. Rohtas Superintendent of Police Roshan Kumar confirmed her death. The incident follows the alleged lynching of her husband, Hasan Raza Khan, on March 24 over a land dispute. Reports said he was tied with ropes, dragged along a highway and beaten to death in public, with the assault captured on video and widely shared on social media.
As per the reports of the Times of India, doctors at the private clinic said that the victims had consumed pesticides.
The Arrest that Followed
Eight persons have been accused in the case, out of which four of them have been arrested so far. Authorities have issued arrest warrants for the remaining accused, and the efforts are underway to apprehend them. Furthermore, family members alleged that they have been under constant fear and
