Two Muslim students were allegedly assaulted in Northeast Delhi’s Mustafabad area while returning home after their class 12th board examination. The incident occurred in Tukhmirpur, where the victims, both named Faizan, were returning back home from their school when a group of 10-12 persons, allegedly belonging to the Hindu community, approached them from behind and later launched an onslaught of blows allegedly motivated by religious identity.
Mohammad Faizan, his friend sharing the same name as Faizan, along with other boys, was walking back home when the group stopped them and asked their names. Mohammad Faizan, wearing a skullcap and visibly belonging to the Muslim community, was singled out along with his other friend, Faizan. Meantime, the students belonging to other communities were reportedly made to flee by the Hindutva group.
Both the Faizans were then allegedly assaulted with sticks and belts and bludgeoned repeatedly, and one was hit on the head, leading to Mohammad Faizan losing consciousness. Recounting the incident, Mohammad Faizan said the attackers targeted him after identifying his religious identity. “I was wearing a skullcap. They kept asking names and beat us after identifying us,” he said while talking to FoEJ Media. “There were two to three boys with me who were Hindu; they were spared,” he alleged.
Mohammad Faizan sustained a fractured nose, required stitches to his head, and suffered multiple injuries across his body, his brother Rashid told FoEJ Media.
Describing the assault to FoEJ Media, Mohammad Faizan said, “They beat me so much that I lost consciousness. They hit me on my hands, head, waist, and legs, using belts, rods, and sticks.”
The classmates who had initially fled returned to the spot shortly after and informed the police. The injured students were taken to a nearby hospital and later referred to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital for further treatment. The FIR has been registered, and the incident was recorded on the CCTV camera, Mohammad Faizan’s family told FoEJ Media.
“The entire incident has been captured on CCTV footage. It shows other boys running away while Faizan is being held from behind,” Rashid said.
“Nothing like this had ever happened before. Faizan did not even know those people. He is a studious boy and does not get involved in fights or disputes,” he added.
He further said that the investigation is underway. “The investigation is currently underway. We have full faith in the police and trust that they will take the right action,” Rashid said.
