AMU Faculty Member Danish Ali Dies After Being Shot on Campus

Date:

A school teacher was shot dead on Wednesday evening at the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) campus in Uttar Pradesh, triggering shock and fear among students and faculty.

The victim, Danish Rao, a computer science teacher at ABK High School, had been associated with the institution for over a decade. He was walking with two colleagues near the university’s central library around 8.50 pm when two unidentified men arrived on a scooter and confronted the group at gunpoint. The assailants opened fire moments later, hitting Rao multiple times, including twice in the head.

According to police, both attackers fired at Rao before fleeing the scene. One of the gunmen was heard issuing a threat moments before the shooting, witnesses said.

Rao was rushed to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Confirming the incident, Senior Superintendent of Police Neeraj Jadon said multiple police teams have been formed to trace the suspects, and CCTV footage from the area is being examined. The attackers remain at large.

AMU Proctor Mohd Wasim Ali said the university was informed of the shooting shortly after it occurred. “We received information about a firing incident near the library and learned that the injured person was Danish Rao, a teacher at ABK School. He had suffered gunshot injuries to the head and later succumbed at the medical college,” he told reporters.

The killing took place hours after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reiterated claims of improved law-and-order conditions in the state while addressing the Assembly, where he cited a safer environment as a key factor attracting investment.
