In light of the upcoming West Bengal Assembly election set to be held in two phases on April 23 and 29, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday asked people to cast their votes to “take revenge” in the wake of the deletion of people’s names from the electoral rolls. Furthermore, she asked people whose names during the process of special intensive revision got deleted from the voter list to appeal before the tribunal.
While addressing an election rally at Samerganj, the epicenter of violence during the April 2025 Waqf (Amendment) Act, Banerjee said, “Cast your votes to take revenge for the deletion of people’s names and against the SIR so that the results reflect that.”
She asked the workers to be on guard until May 4, the counting date. “I hope none of our booth agents will sell themselves off to the BJP, in the interest of West Bengal,” Banerjee said.
Furthermore, she alleged that EVM machines will be designed to malfunction at a few places. Banerjee urged the workers not to allow EC officials to repair the machines but to demand replacements of them.
Apparently alleging that Union Minister Amit Shah was behind the deletion of voters’ names, Banerjee said, “If you have the guts, fight directly.”
Rally at Samserganj and Farakka
While addressing a rally at Samserganj and Farakka in support of Mohammed Nur Alam and Mohammed Amirul Islam simultaneously, Banerjee attacked the BJP for spreading rumors against her, saying that she did not do much for the Muslim community.
Furthermore, alleging malpractices in the 2024 general elections, she said, “If the voter list contained names of infiltrators, the Prime Minister and the Home Minister also won with their votes earlier, so they should have resigned first.”
Rally at Jiaganj
In yet another rally, Banerjee alleged that in her own constituency Bhabanipur in Kolkata, 40,000 names have been deleted from the electoral rolls.
“All those who get to vote will cast their vote in favor of the TMC,” she said.
“I am from a Hindu family; the names of my family members have also been deleted,” she added.
She also alleged that the officers who are relatives of BJP leaders have been deputed in West Bengal. She further alleged that the migrant workers hailing from Bengal and staying in other states were branded Bangladeshis and eventually deported.
“I believe the ills perpetrated by the BJP will cause their downfall in 2026 itself,” Banerjee said.
