At least 50 lakh names in West Bengal have been identified for exclusion in the voters’ list as West Bengal gears up for the election. The numbers have been revealed by the latest trends available during digitization of enumeration forms in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) by the Election Commission of India that flagged off from November 4.
The figure stood at a little over 46 lakh based on the digitization status till Tuesday evening, and by Wednesday night it had climbed to nearly 50 lakh. This indicates that roughly four lakh names were added to the list of voters marked for potential exclusion within just 24 hours.
Moreover, it has been reported by the insiders from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), West Bengal, that over 50 lakh names were found eligible for exclusion till Wednesday night and over 23 lakh names come under the “deceased voters” category.
While more than seven lakh voters have been classified as “untraceable,” the remaining cases involve “duplicate” entries and deletions for various other reasons. The final scope of deletions from the voters’ list will become clear once the draft rolls are published on December 16.
As reported by Siasat TV, the draft’s publication list will follow the notice phase, which is issuing, verification, and decision-making on the matter of the enumeration forms and disposal of claims and objections to be completed by the electoral registration officers (EROs). This will take place between December 16, 2025, and February 7, 2026.
Meanwhile, the checking of the various parameters of electoral rolls and obtaining the final publication by ECI’s permission will take place on February 10, 2026.
