BJP Takes Lead in Delhi MCD Bypolls, Clinches 7 Wards; AAP Makes Gains with Three Wins

The results of votes for the by-election of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi in one way. The counting, which began on Wednesday morning, saw tight security across 10 counting centers in Delhi. As for now, BJP has gained victory over seven wards. AAP has won three, while the Congress and the All India Forward Bloc have won in one ward. 

The elections for the 12 MCD wards came after the Bharatiya Janata Party emerged victorious in the capital in February 2025. The BJP has won nine offices, while three have been backed by the Aam Aadmi Party.

Ten centers have been set up, as reported by the State Election Commission. These centers are at Kanjhawala, Pitampura, Bharat Nagar, Civil Lines, Rouse Avenue, Dwarka, Najafgarh, Gole Market, Pushp Vihar, and Mandawli. 

The BJP Victory 

The first seat won by BJP was by Suman Kumar Gupta from Chandni Chowk with a margin of 1,182 votes. The other winning candidates include Manisha Devi, who won Dwarka B; Sarla Choudhry, who won Vinod Nagar; Veena Asija from Vinod Nagar; Anjum Mandal from Greater Kailash; and Rekha Rani from Dichaon Kalan.

The AAP Victory 

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party backed three seats. Ram Swaroop Kanojia from Dakshin Puri, Anil from Mundka, and Rajan Arora from Naraina emerged victorious. 

Furthermore, as reported by the news agency PTI, nearly 1,800 police personnel and paramilitary forces as well were deployed at the counting centers. The voting for these wards was held on November 30 with bypolls at 38.51%.

The BJP has fielded eight women candidates in the civic bypolls, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is contesting with six and the Congress with five.

Among the 12 wards going to polls, Shalimar Bagh B and Dwarka B are expected to draw significant attention. The Shalimar Bagh B seat fell vacant after BJP councillor Rekha Gupta assumed office as Delhi’s Chief Minister following the party’s victory in the Assembly elections.
