The Congress party has sharpened its criticism of the Election Commission (EC) over alleged discrepancies in Bihar’s electoral rolls, claiming that nearly an entire village in Bodh Gaya has been listed under a single house number.
According to the party, records from Booth No. 161 in Nidani village, under the Barachatti Assembly segment, show 947 voters registered at House No. 6. Congress leaders allege that while Nidani has numerous households, the official list compresses the entire village into one fictional address.
Calling the matter “a living proof that democracy is being stolen,” the party questioned the credibility of the voter verification process. “How was door-to-door verification carried out? Why were original house numbers deleted? And who stands to gain from this?” the party asked in a statement posted on X.
The Congress argued that such irregularities could mask fake or duplicate entries and described the episode as “not a clerical error but a systematic attempt to erode transparency.” It further warned that if such practices are possible in a small village, the scale of manipulation across Bihar and the country could be far greater.
Rahul Gandhi also weighed in, ridiculing the Commission by remarking, “See the magic of EC, an entire village nestled in one house!”
Party spokesperson Pawan Khera aimed a direct barb at Bihar’s Chief Electoral Officer, Gyanesh Gupta. “There’s a buzz in every street, Gupta ji. You are from a respected family. Don’t leave behind a tainted legacy,” he wrote on X. Without naming the BJP, he hinted that the ruling party’s “days in power are numbered” and urged Gupta not to “tarnish the name of seven generations” by siding with them.
Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi intensified his offensive against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of selective silence. “He doesn’t stay quiet when an innocent is wrongly accused, but he looks away when the real thief is caught. Modi ji’s silence shows he knows this theft has been exposed,” Gandhi said.
The remarks come as Gandhi continues his 16-day ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ a 1,300-km march across Bihar highlighting what he calls “vote theft” in the country. The march began in Sasaram and will conclude in Patna on September 1 with a rally featuring INDIA bloc leaders.
