Death Toll in Lebanon Crosses 1,300 Following Israeli Strikes

Date:

Israel launched a fresh wave of attacks in Lebanon on Friday, claiming the lives of four people, including two worshippers, the local authorities reported.

The attacks came shortly after congregational prayers at mosques in the Beeka region. The attack claimed the lives of two more civilians and injured several others in a separate attack by Israel across south Lebanon.  A spate of air attacks was carried out in Beirut, and loud explosions were heard as South Beirut was pounded by extensive strikes. However, there is no immediate information about the casualties during the bombing that took place following the strikes.

Meantime, as reported by the NDTV world, the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health said as many as 1,340 people have died and over 4,000 people have sustained injuries ever since the conflict escalated.

This latest strike comes ahead of the statement of the Israeli military that Hezbollah had launched a barrage of rockets that targeted the area of civilians in northern Israel.

It is imperative to note that the increase in the attack on non-military targets has created widespread damage across various parts of Lebanon.

NDTV World further reported that as many as 82 attacks on emergency medical services have unfolded in the past months, claiming the lives of 53 healthcare workers.

At least 125 children are reported to be among the victims of the ongoing escalation. Journalists have also been affected, with United Nations experts calling for an independent investigation into the reported killings of media personnel in Israeli strikes.

Over the past three days, Israel has intensified its bombardment, with reports indicating that more than 50 people have been killed during this period alone.

Israel has maintained that its operations are aimed at targeting Hezbollah positions and has signaled plans to secure areas south of the Litani River to prevent further rocket attacks.

However, Lebanon’s health ministry has alleged that several strikes have hit emergency services, medical centers, and hospitals. According to official figures, 67 emergency vehicles have been damaged, while 20 medical centers and five hospitals have been forced out of service. Reports further suggest that water facilities in areas such as Ibl al-Saqi and al-Maysat in southern Lebanon have also been struck.

In the past two weeks, Israeli strikes have targeted roads, bridges, and other critical infrastructure, effectively isolating parts of southern Lebanon from Beirut. The escalation has triggered large-scale displacement, with more than 1.2 million people reportedly forced to flee since the conflict began.
