According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) of Delhi worsened on Monday to 189, making it just 11 points away from the “poor” category reading of the city in the month. The AQI on Sunday was recorded at 167, due to consistent winds of 10-15 km per hour.
According to the reports of the Hindustan Times, Delhi’s air quality is most likely to be in the ‘moderate’ category from October 13 to 14. HT further reports that the air quality will be ‘poor’ on October 15.
An AQI between zero and 50 is considered “good,” 51 to 100 “satisfactory,” 101 to 200 “moderate,” 201 to 300 “poor,” 301 to 400 “very poor,” and 401 to 500 “severe,” as per the CPCB.
As Diwali is round the corner, the Delhi government has sought the permission of green firecrackers in the heart of India. It has informed the court in an affidavit about various measures it has planned to check the same and the measures to create awareness among the people.
The Supreme Court also stated last week that a complete ban on bursting firecrackers in Delhi-NCR is “neither practical nor ideal.”
