Atishi, the Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate for the Kalkaji seat, kicked off a crowdfunding campaign on Sunday for her Delhi Assembly election bid, expressing hope that the public would back her party’s focus on work and integrity.
During a press conference in Delhi, Atishi unveiled an online donation link, stating that she required ₹40 lakh to fund her election campaign.
She noted that the AAP has consistently relied on small donations from ordinary citizens to fuel its campaigns, enabling the party to focus on a politics of work and integrity.
On the microblogging platform X, Atishi expressed, “Over the past five years, you’ve supported me as an MLA, a minister, and now as the Chief Minister of Delhi. None of this would have been possible without your blessings and support.”
She further added, “As a young, educated woman, your trust and contributions have allowed me to envision a political career—a journey I could not have undertaken alone. Now, as we approach another election, I once again need your support.”
In December, senior AAP leader and Jangpura candidate, Manish Sisodia, also launched a crowdfunding platform, seeking financial backing for his election campaign.
All 70 seats in the Delhi Assembly will be contested on February 5, with vote counting scheduled for February 8.
The AAP, which secured 67 seats in the 2015 elections and 62 in 2020, is aiming for a third consecutive term in the capital.
In contrast, the BJP won three seats in 2015 and eight in 2020, while the Congress failed to win any seats.
Although Congress and the AAP are both part of the INDIA alliance, they are not contesting the Delhi Assembly elections together.
On Friday, Delhi CM Atishi criticized the BJP for not yet naming their chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming elections. Citing “credible sources,” she claimed that the BJP is set to announce Ramesh Bidhuri, a figure known for using offensive language, as their CM candidate.
