Flight operations at Delhi airport were disrupted early Saturday morning as dense fog enveloped parts of northern India, significantly reducing visibility in several areas to near zero.
Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) announced on X at 12:05 am that flight operations at the airport have been impacted due to dense fog.
DIAL urged passengers to contact their respective airlines for updated flight information and expressed regret for any inconvenience caused.
Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information. Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted,” DIAL posted.
Road traffic in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana crawled as commuters faced difficulties maneuvering through the dense fog.
Flight operations at Delhi airport were disrupted in the early morning hours due to thick fog. IndiGo confirmed that it had temporarily suspended both departures and arrivals because of the adverse weather conditions.
The airline also stated that once operations resume, flights could face delays due to congestion on the airside.
Air India, in an update on X at 1:16 am, stated that poor visibility caused by dense fog is impacting flight operations in Delhi and across parts of northern India.
Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in Delhi, operated by DIAL, manages approximately 1,300 flight movements daily.
Delhi’s 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 371, placing it in the “very poor” category, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). An anonymous airport official reported that over 400 flights were delayed due to the adverse weather conditions at the airport.
