Hitting at the BJP leader Surendu Adhikari who remarked “We will defeat Speaker Biman Banerjee and Chief Minister Mamta Banarjee After the BJP assumes power, Muslim MLAs of their party (TMC) who will win and come to the Assembly, (we will) throw them out of the House,” West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday warned the BJP for playing “Hindu Card” in politics and said the BJP was importing “fake Hinduism”
“How can your leader say that when Muslims win, you people will remove them from the Assembly? How can they dismiss 33 percent of the population?” The chief Minister questioned.
“Your imported version of the Hindu religion is neither endorsed by the Vedas nor our sages and monks,” the chief minister said in the House. “How can you possibly deny the fundamental rights of Muslims as citizens, just because they are Muslims?” the Chief Minister said.
“I have the duty and the right to protect Hindus and Hinduism, but not your version of it…Please don’t come to play the Hindu card…. I need no certification from you on how Hindu I am,” she added.
“Ramzan month is being deliberately chosen by some to hurt Muslims. But people from minority communities should rest assured. The unity of all religions will prevail,” she further said.
Meanwhile, as reported by the Indian Express, The All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM), has claimed to contest all seats in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, as state’s Muslim population has surpassed 40% .The announcement came during a press conference in Kolkata on Tuesday where the party’s spokesman Imran Solanki said “We are here to make a big announcement. We fought in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Delhi In Bengal, we will fight from all seats. In the last panchayat elections, the AIMIM received 60,000 votes in Malda, 25,000 in Murshidabad, and from 15,000 to 18,000 in other areas.”
What was Suvendu Adhikari’s Remark?
Earlier in the week, Suvendu Adhikari, a BJP politician, claimed that after BJP comes in power, it will throw the TMC’s Muslim MLAs from the house.
“We will defeat Speaker Biman Banerjee and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. After the BJP assumes power, we will carry the Muslim MLAs of their (TMC) party, who will win and come to the Assembly, and throw them out of the House in another 10 months,”Adhikari said.
“In the last four to five days, there have been incidents of attacks on Hindu temples and idols vandalised and set on fire in a few areas in Tamluk constituency. Not a single arrest was made. In Murshidabad’s district Nawada and Uluberia, Hindus were attacked. Hindu shop owners and houses were set on fire and looted,” the BJP leader claimed.
“People celebrating India’s win in the recently concluded Champions Trophy were attacked” he alleged.
“In Uluberia, those who were celebrating India’s victory at the Champions Trophy were attacked. The Uluberia IC was injured, and when one of the BJP MLAs proposed an adjournment motion today, he was not allowed to speak. This is illegal. This is a direct attempt to choke the voice of the common people of Bengal,” he said
