Synopsis: On Saturday, the voting for the election started amid rumors of injuries. During conflicts between the TMC and Congress party the previous Friday night, a house was demolished. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) reports the deaths of three members and injuries to members of other parties as the violence during the local elections in West Bengal continues.
Reports indicate the murders of three Trinamool Congress (TMC) employees as well as members of other political parties in the state of West Bengal as a result of poll-related violence, which continues to claim a high toll.
Even though there have been more casualty reports than ever before, voting in the state began early on Saturday.
Late on Friday, there were clashes between TMC and Congress party members in the Murshidabad district. The local party reported that three members had died in similar clashes elsewhere in the state.
A house was vandalized during the fight in addition to people dying. When word of the occurrence reached the local police station, a squad arrived there. Incident further information is awaited.
There have reportedly been bomb threats in the area, and local police have responded by conducting numerous searches for any potential explosives.
“We had received information about the presence of bombs and weapons here, but till now we have not found anything. A search operation is underway. We have come to know from sources that preparations are being made to create disturbance during polling. We have information that crude bombs have been hidden in the area and searches are underway to find them,” Deputy Superintendent of Police Dibakar Das told ANI.
The state has experienced numerous violent occurrences leading up to the panchayat elections.
A Trinamool Congress (TMC) employee is said to have been shot and killed on July 1 in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.
At the Basanti police station, the dead was discovered lying on the side of the road with a bullet wound to his head.
Earlier, a TMC worker was allegedly beaten to death in the Malda district.
The upcoming Saturday’s voting process will be the only instance, and the counting of votes is scheduled for July 11.
These elections are anticipated to witness a heated competition for governing local administrations between the ruling TMC party and the BJP.
It will serve as a crucial evaluation for both parties in preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the following year.
