The Jammu and Kashmir government has postponed the Class X board exam sloted for March 7 due to heightened security concerns surrounding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the Union territory.
Although the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education’s announcement doesn’t explicitly cite Modi’s visit, the increased security measures in place suggest a connection. The exams for subjects for Class X, including various fields like agriculture, automotive, and IT, have been rescheduled to April 4, according to a statement from the School Education Board. All the schools in the valley will be shut down for three days yet again, depriving students of education.
Originally, the Class X board exams were scheduled from March 7 to April 3, with practical exam dates to be announced later. In an official notice, the board announced the postponement of the exams in light of “unavoidable circumstances” and rescheduled them for April 4.
Modi is set to address a rally at Srinagar’s Bakshi Stadium on March 7, his first since the special status revocation. The rally has sparked controversy as the administration has ordered thousands of employees, including teachers, to attend.
Modi will visit Kahsmir for the first in five years in anticipation of the upcoming Lok Sabha election in Kashmir, although the party has yet to announce its candidates.
