The Delhi High Court on Friday, May 3, issued notice to the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on the petitions filed by former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia seeking bail in the Delhi excise policy case.
A single-judge bench of Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma has issued notices to the CBI and ED on the trial court’s April 30 order that dismissed Sisodia’s bail pleas. The high court has scheduled the next hearing for May 8.
According to the reports, in an interim application, Sisodia requested the court retain the trial court’s order that allows him to visit his ill wife once a week.
The court granted this request after the ED’s counsel stated that the agency had no objections to the continuation of the trial court’s order.
Sisodia has been in custody since February 26, 2023. He is being investigated by India’s top investigation agencies, the CBI and the ED, in connection with the Delhi excise policy case.
The case involves allegations that Delhi government officials connived to grant liquor licences to certain traders in exchange for bribes.
Earlier to this, Sisodia’s bail was rejected on March 31, 2023, in connection with the CBI case. On April 28, 2023, the trial court rejected his bail in connection with the ED case.
Sisodia then moved a second round of bail pleas before the trial court, which came to be dismissed earlier this week.
