The national spokesperson of the Congress, Gourav Vallabh, joined the BJP after quitting the Congress party, marking a major loss for the party ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in 2024.
Calling the party ‘directionless’, Gaurab sent a letter to Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge citing the reasons for his exit, such as the caste census, and said that he cannot raise ‘anti-Sanatan’ slogans. He had handled Mallikarjun Kharge’s Congress president campaign.
“I do not feel comfortable with the directionless way in which the Congress party is moving forward today. I can neither raise anti-Sanatana slogans nor abuse the wealth creators of the country. I am resigning from all posts and primary membership of the Congress party,” Gourav Vallabh wrote.
While attending a press conference, Gourav Vallabh said, “I posted a letter in the morning on various social media platforms… In that letter, I wrote all the pains of my heart… This has been my view from the beginning that the temple of Lord Shri Ram (in Ayodhya) should be built. An invitation was received, and Congress rejected the invitation; I cannot accept it… The leaders of the alliance raised questions on Sanatana. Why was Congress not responding to it?… I joined the BJP today, and I hope to use my ability and knowledge to take India forward…”
“There were 2-3 major issues which I had highlighted in my resignation letter… I cannot abuse the wealth creators from morning to evening. Generating wealth is not a crime,” he added.
Former Bihar Congress president Anil Sharma also joined the BJP in the presence of its national general secretary Vinod Tawde in Delhi.
Gourav Vallabh’s Famous Debate:
Gourav Vallabh has been a strong voice from Congress regarding the economic issues of the country. He contested the Rajasthan assembly election from the Udaipur constituency in 2023. However, the BJP candidate secured a comfortable win with a margin of over 32,000 votes.
Gourav Vallabh made his poll debut in 2019 in Jharkhand’s Jamshedpur East, where he won over 18,000 votes and ended up in the third spot behind then-sitting chief minister Raghubar Das and Saryu Roy.
In 2019, a debate between media panelists Sambit Patra and Gourav Vallabh went viral, focusing on the BJP’s claim of achieving a $5 trillion economy by 2024. During the discussion, Vallabh queried the BJP spokesperson, asking if he knew “how many zeroes are there in a trillion?” Patra was left speechless in response. Subsequently, Vallabh proceeded to explain to Patra the number of zeroes in a trillion, billion, and million. The video garnered widespread attention and circulated across various media platforms.
