After receiving inputs suggesting potential harm to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for “fame,” guards at Tihar Jail are on vigilance. Arvind Kejriwal is lodged in Jail No. 2 where a murder took place in the past.
As per reports, in 2021, an inmate named Srikan Ramaswami was murdered in the same cell during a gang war that erupted in the complex. Four individuals were arrested in connection with the murder case, which was then transferred to the Central Investigation (CI) for further investigation.
Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Delhi Minister Atishi has reported on the CM’s deteriorating health. In a statement, Atishi said that Arvind Kejriwal has lost 4.5 kg in weight and emphasized Kejriwal’s severe diabetic condition.
“Despite his health problems, he works round the clock to serve the nation. Between his arrest and now, Arvind Kejriwal has lost 4.5 kg. This is very worrying. The BJP is putting his health in danger. If something happens to Arvind Kejriwal, not just the country, even God won’t forgive them,” she stated.
Reports from Jail
Reports have mentioned that the CM is receiving home-cooked meals for lunch and dinner, along with a jail breakfast comprising bread and tea. A rapid response team remains stationed near his cell for any medical emergencies.
Several media outlets reported that on the first day at Tihar, Kejriwal followed his routine activities, including sweeping his cell and the surrounding area, even though he couldn’t sleep comfortably during the night. Reports claimed that the Delhi CM stuck to his daily routine, waking up early in the morning for yoga. He was then mostly seen walking around in the cell or reading a book. The Delhi CM is provided with a table and a chair to keep three books, as per the court’s order.
The court has allowed Kejriwal to keep devices such as a sugar sensor and glucometer, isabgol, glucose, and toffees on his table as he suffers from diabetes.
From the jail premises, Kejriwal is also allowed to communicate with his wife, Sunita, through video conference. He also met his lawyer in person in Tihar jail.
On April 1, the Rouse Avenue court sent Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal to judicial custody until April 15 in the Delhi excise policy case. Kejriwal was produced in the court of Special Judge Kaveri Baweja after his second ED custody ended. AAP has filed a plea in the Delhi High Court challenging the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal. The petition will be heard in the HC on Wednesday.
