A massive fire erupted at a three-storey plastic bag manufacturing facility in Noida’s Sector 80 on Monday morning, according to Fire Services officials. The blaze, reported at 8:12 AM, caused no injuries.
Chief Fire Officer Pradeep Kumar Choubey stated that 25 firefighting vehicles and 125 firefighters were deployed to extinguish the blaze at Vishnu Packwell, the plastic bag manufacturing company.
“After receiving the information, initially two vehicles were deployed to the spot. But then we noticed that the fire had spread to the entire building and the flames were very high, so we decided to send more vehicles, including those of private operators,” said Choubey.
The firefighting efforts were complicated as the blaze spread to other floors, particularly the basement, where goods were stored.
“When our officers moved to the upper floors of the building to douse the flames we realised that it was not easy to go inside the basement of the building which was primarily used as a storage. We used technologies like BA sets and thermal imaging to gauge the situation and then decided to flood the basement from the outside to extinguish the flames,” Choubey said.
The officer confirmed that although around 20 people were inside the building when the fire started, they had all evacuated by the time firefighters arrived on the scene.
“It is believed that the company employees, perhaps along with others in nearby offices, tried to douse the flames on their own initially and alerted the fire officials after the situation went out of control,” he added.
The Fire Department announced that a structural audit of the building would be conducted to investigate the cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage.
