Indian Leaders Speak Out Against Gaza Genocide, Slam Government Silence

Date:

Prominent Indian political figures are increasingly voicing strong criticism of Israel’s actions in Gaza, condemning what they describe as an ongoing genocide, and calling out the Indian government for its silence.

On Tuesday, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra sharply criticized the BJP-led central government for its “silence and inaction” in response to the mass killing of Palestinians by Israeli forces. In a series of posts on X, Gandhi accused the Israeli state of committing genocide, citing over 60,000 deaths including 18,430 children and widespread starvation.

“Enabling these crimes by silence and inaction is a crime in itself,” she wrote. Gandhi described the deaths of at least five Al Jazeera journalists near Al-Shifa Hospital as “cold-blooded murder,” and condemned Israel’s continued attacks on Palestinian civilians and press freedom. “The immeasurable courage of those who dare to stand for the truth will never be broken by the violence and hatred of the Israeli state,” she added.

Gandhi also mourned the killing of journalist Anas al-Sharif and his colleagues in a targeted Israeli strike, later acknowledged by Israel as an attack on a Hamas figure allegedly disguised as a journalist. “In a world where much of the media is enslaved to power and commerce, these brave souls reminded us of what true journalism is. May they rest in peace,” she said.

Meanwhile, AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi echoed similar concerns. Speaking on X, Owaisi revealed he had planned to raise the issue of the Gaza genocide during Zero Hour in Parliament, and had also written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In his letter, he urged the Indian government to respond to the worsening humanitarian crisis and take diplomatic steps to stop the famine and violence in Gaza.

Citing UN data, Owaisi highlighted the rising death toll and famine-like conditions, noting that more than 1,300 Palestinians many of them children have died while seeking food. He called for urgent humanitarian aid from India, including food, medical assistance, and support for safe humanitarian access.

Owaisi further accused Israel of deliberately blocking aid and using famine as a weapon of war. “One-third of Gazans are going without food for days… 1,400 aid-seekers have been killed while simply trying to access food,” he wrote. He also referenced the International Criminal Court’s ongoing investigations, pointing to arrest warrants issued against Israeli leaders and the state’s failure to comply with International Court of Justice directives.

As the death toll in Gaza continues to climb reaching nearly 60,000 international outrage grows over the worsening conditions, particularly among children. Images of starving civilians have circulated globally, prompting renewed criticism of Israel’s actions and increasing pressure on governments worldwide, including India, to respond.
