J&K Government Dismisses Two Teachers Amid Alleged Anti‑National Activity

Date:

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has ordered the dismissal of two government teachers, Ghulam Hussain and Majid Iqbal Dar, citing their alleged involvement in activities deemed anti-national. The action was taken under Article 311(2)(c) of the Constitution, which allows the government to terminate an employee without holding a formal inquiry if it is considered necessary for the security of the state.

According to official orders, the Lieutenant Governor assessed the circumstances of each case and concluded that a departmental inquiry was not expedient. Both teachers, who served in the School Education Department, have been removed from service with immediate effect.

The dismissals come despite objections from the elected government, reflecting the administration’s firm stance on alleged anti-national activities among public servants. Since 2019, when the central government revoked Article 370 and reorganized Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories, authorities have taken a tougher approach toward government employees. To date, over 80 officials in the Union Territory have been dismissed under the same constitutional provision.

Article 311(2)(c) empowers the administration to bypass standard procedural safeguards when it is satisfied that an employee’s continued service could pose a threat to state security. Officials say this measure is part of a broader effort to ensure vigilance and integrity within government departments.
