West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday described the Maha Kumbh as having transformed into a ‘Death Kumbh.’
The TMC supremo made this remark in reference to the recent stampede at the Maha Kumbh, which resulted in several fatalities and numerous injuries.
In a strong criticism of the Centre and the Uttar Pradesh government, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee blamed the authorities for the alleged mismanagement at the ongoing Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.
According to the Uttar Pradesh government, a stampede occurred near the Sangam area at the Maha Kumbh on Mauni Amavasya (January 29), resulting in the deaths of 30 devotees and injuring 60 others. Additionally, 18 people lost their lives in a recent stampede at the overcrowded New Delhi railway station.
However, the Opposition has accused the state government of mismanagement and of underreporting the death toll from the Maha Kumbh stampede.
While addressing the Bengal Assembly, Banerjee accused the NDA-led Centre of concealing hundreds of bodies in an effort to downplay the death toll.
Banerjee, intensifying her attack on the BJP, claimed that the saffron party’s MLAs were afraid to face her and therefore boycotted the House whenever she spoke.
Condemning the accusations that linked her to the Muslim League, Banerjee challenged the BJP to provide evidence, saying, “I am accused of being a member of the Muslim League. I strongly condemn these baseless allegations. I believe in secularism, coexistence, and the development of all communities. If the BJP can prove that I have any connection with terrorists or fundamentalists from Bangladesh, I will resign.”
