Following the purchase of a goat by a Muslim man in Mumbai for purported sacrifice in advance of Bakra Eid, a fight broke out in a residential community.
On social media, a video of the incident in which some onlookers were shouting and blocking the man from transporting the goat to his house went viral.
People from a certain faith who lived in the community gathered there to voice their opposition to the goat that Mohseen Sheikh had brought to his home.
They insisted that no sacrifices be made on the property and that the goat be removed from society.
To show their outrage, the locals also held up religious banners and performed the Hanuman Chalisa.
According to a station house officer (SHO) at Mira Road police station, the officers responded quickly to the event and went to the Bhayandar housing society to talk with the inhabitants about how to calm them down.
Based on a police official, the man notifies the authorities in advance of doing the surgery each year since he has no other location to keep the goat.
The official stated, “The man takes the goat away the following day and the animal is not slaughtered at his residence.” He claimed that the man has now been instructed to remove the animal from his home in front of the police.
“Our society had passed a rule that no livestock would be allowed inside the society, but they (some residents of the society) violated it and brought two goats inside,
“a resident of the community said in a statement to ANI. We reject it and will not permit it. Another resident of the community urged everyone to uphold social peace and abide by society’s guidelines.
In the meantime, the police have filed a complaint under the appropriate IPC provisions against 11 persons for allegedly transporting goats intended for sacrifice on Bakrid into a private housing estate on Mira Road.
