Muslim Man Assaulted by Cow Vigilantes in MP, Forced to Chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’

Date:

A Muslim man was reportedly forced to chant Jai Shri Ram, assaulted, and humiliated by self-proclaimed cow vigilantes in Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri. The vigilantes accused him of slaughtering cows.  The video of the incident also made rounds on the internet, demonstrating the man cowering with hands, apparently the Muslim man, surrounded by a group of men, palpably angry.

The group further provocatively used the name Allah. The video also shows the group hitting the man and forcing him to chant Jai Shri Ram; in return, the Muslim man softly says Jai Shri Ram, to which the group urges him to chant louder.

“They tell each other to only buy from the Muslim vendors, so how do we begin to like these jihadis?” The group said, accusing him and his community of cow slaughter, the individual used the slur “jihadi.”

“Joh lagatar gau mata ko katrahe hai (they keep slaughtering our cows); they are jihadis,” another member was heard saying.

The incident is not the only one. In Odisha, another Muslim vendor was harassed, allegedly by a right-wing mob, and forced to chant Jai Shri Ram.

A man identified as a Hindutva supporter was seen brandishing a sharp wooden object at the Muslim vendor. The Hindutva supporter was also heard using abusive language, including insults directed at the Muslim vendor’s mother.

In yet another case, a young Muslim man identified as Anas was brutally assaulted earlier this month after a man, who was drunk, allegedly asked his name and identified him as Muslim. The incident happened in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra.

The local media reveals that Anas was on his way to visit his grandmother with his uncle, Fardeen, when he was reportedly stopped by a man identified as Santosh.

According to the police, the dispute erupted between youths from the same neighborhood under the Tajganj police station limits and was “pacified on the spot” by Anas’s uncle, Fardeen. Santosh, however, later returned and assaulted Fardeen after the situation had been defused.

“The police investigation has not confirmed the allegation of assault after asking for his name. Therefore, please do not spread misleading news,” the police said on X.
