A 17-year-old Muslim student, Mohd. Arish, tragically died on July 24, 2025, after a brutal attack by three young men in Fatehpur. The incident, which police say occurred on July 23 near Kashiram Colony, saw Arish, a Class 12 student at Maharshi Vidya Mandir, ambushed while returning home from school.
According to Arish’s family, the assailants—identified as Harshwardhan Pandey, Deepak Savita, and Bharat Sarkar—were lying in wait with sticks and rods. “As soon as my grandson reached near Kashiram Colony, they started abusing him and hit him repeatedly. He fainted on the spot,” recounted Ruab Ahmed, Arish’s grandfather. Local residents called an ambulance, and Arish reportedly vomited blood due to the severity of his injuries.
Arish was initially taken to Sadar Hospital in Fatehpur and later transferred to Kanpur for advanced medical care, where he succumbed to his injuries the following day.
Police have registered FIR number 0291/2025 at Kotwali Police Station. A senior police officer confirmed that two of the accused have been arrested, while the third remains at large, with raids underway to apprehend him.
Family members allege the attack stemmed from an earlier dispute. A relative stated, “About two months ago, Harshwardhan, who is associated with a right-wing group, had an argument with Arish. He had passed out from the school earlier this year but continued to threaten him.”
Arish’s family is now appealing for strict action, with Ahmed stating, “This is not just about our child. We don’t want any other family to suffer like us.” Police have stated that further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
