A special discussion will be flagged off on Vande Mataram in Lok Sabha on Monday by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to mark 150 years of ‘Vande Mataram.’ The decision will highlight the lesser-known facts related to the song.
What all will be discussed?
PM Modi is likely to discuss the contribution of the song, which was first published by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee and debuted in the literary journal Bangadarshan on November 7, 1875.
Opposition members are closely watching Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks on Vande Mataram. Their anticipation follows his recent claim, made at an event marking the song’s anniversary, that the Congress had “removed important stanzas” from the original composition during its 1937 Faizabad session.
The Prime Minister earlier said that the congress’s decision resulted in partition and dissected the national songs into fragments. Meanwhile, the congress said that the decision was based on the advice of Rabindranath Tagore, which, according to Congress leaders of the time, amounted to an accommodation of the sentiments of members from other communities and faiths.
According to the information available, the ruling NDA members have been allotted three hours out of 10 total hours for this debate.
Earlier, a political row broke out ahead of the Winter Session after the Rajya Sabha Secretariat reiterated that MPs should refrain from using expressions like ‘Vande Mataram’ and ‘Jai Hind’ inside Parliament in order to maintain decorum.
The winter session of parliament will continue till December 19, and the discussion on “Vande Mataram” is likely to take place in the coming days, which might create havoc due to differences in opinion about the song between the treasury and opposition benches.
