A controversy has erupted as a local leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Kerala, during a post-election speech in Kerala’s Malappuram district, has passed a ‘misogynistic’ statement. Former local secretary Saidali Majeed made the remarks while addressing a public gathering in Thenala, taking aim at the Muslim League for nominating women candidates.
Majid said that the party has not married women “to showcase them before other men”; furthermore, he made explicit comments on married women and their private lives.
“…we also have married women at home… but not to show them off to win votes. Let them sit at home… marry women to sleep with and make kids,” he said.
“That is why families traditionally verify lineage and background while arranging marriages…” he added.
In his address, Majeed remarked that his party’s families also included married women and questioned the rationale behind fielding women candidates solely for electoral advantage.
“Whether you field 20, 25, or even 200 women candidates, we also have married women at home. That is precisely why families traditionally verify lineage and background while arranging marriages,” he said.
To gain a vote or to win one ward, they will not be paraded before other men.” He added, “We also have women married; our children are also married; that is, they sleep with their husbands,” he added
