The replies of Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College, were found to be deceptive during a polygraph test and layered voice analysis, according to CBI officials. This revelation adds a significant layer to the ongoing investigation, raising further questions about his involvement in the matter under scrutiny.
The CBI, investigating the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College on August 9, has alleged that former principal Sandip Ghosh was informed about the crime at 9:58 am but delayed notifying the police. Instead, he reportedly filed a vague complaint later, according to officials cited by PTI. This delay has become a focal point in the ongoing probe, raising concerns about Ghosh’s actions in the critical hours following the crime.
He also introduced what the officers called a new theory of suicide.
“He did not try to get an FIR lodged immediately. Rather a new theory of suicide was introduced which is not possible as per external injury visible on the body of the victim that was undressed at the lower part,” the CBI has alleged.

Mondal, who has also been arrested by the CBI in connection with the case, was informed about the incident at 10:03 am on August 9 but did not promptly arrive at the crime scene. This delay is under scrutiny as part of the broader investigation into the rape and murder of the trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College.
General Diary Entry 542 reported that the body of the PG trainee from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was found in an “unconscious state” in the seminar room of the chest medicine department. However, it was noted that a doctor had already examined the body and confirmed the victim was dead prior to this entry. This discrepancy highlights potential issues in the initial reporting and response to the incident.
The agency said the general diary entry was allegedly made “in conspiracy with hospital authorities and other unknown persons”, intentionally mentioning wrong details.
The CBI has stated that Mondal’s delay in filing the FIR and his failure to secure the crime scene resulted in the loss of crucial evidence. This negligence has raised concerns about the integrity of the investigation and the preservation of key forensic details.
He tried to protect the accused Sanjay Roy and others who had unauthorised access to the scene of the crime.
The woman was found raped and murdered inside the seminar hall of the hospital. She had gone to rest in the room. Her body was found in the hall by a doctor.
Sanjay Roy, a police volunteer, was arrested the following day after CCTV footage showed him entering the room at 4:03 am. According to PTI, a report from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in New Delhi indicated that Roy’s account was deemed “deceptive on certain important issues.” This finding raises further questions about his involvement in the case.
Sandip Ghosh and Mondal were arrested on Saturday. Ghosh was already in CBI’s custody in the financial irregularities case.
