Tension Grips Meerut Following Murder of Dalit Woman and Abduction of Daughter

Date:

Protests unfolded in Uttar Pradesh’s Kapsad village ahead of the murder of a Dalit woman and the abduction of her daughter.  The deceased, identified as Sunita Jatav, was walking towards their field with her daughter when they were stopped near the canal by the accused, Paras, and eventually led to the crime. As per the reports, Paras started misbehaving with the daughter, and when the mother objected, he hit her head with a sickle and abducted the daughter. Sunita later succumbed to her injuries.

The incident has resulted in outrage and protest at the hospital, demanding immediate arrest of the accused. The family also resisted performing the last rituals of the deceased, an act to show their anger and agitation. However, later on, the matter was resolved late Friday evening after prolonged negotiations between the grieving family and the administration, and she was cremated.

“More than ten police teams are working across districts to apprehend the accused and ensure the girl’s safe recovery. Both hail from the same village. We are acting swiftly on all leads,” Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vipin Tada said.

As per the reports of the news agency PTI, District Magistrate Dr. V.K. Singh said the family had received a Rs 10 lakh check from the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s Office, adding that the administration was considering granting an arms license in view of security concerns.

Meanwhile, “The case of the murderous attack on the mother and the abduction of the daughter in Meerut is grave,” National President and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said.

“Nothing could be worse than having no hope left from the government. The BJP is a completely failed government. Is anyone listening?” he said on X.
