Karnataka Police in connection with an incident of stone pelting targeting Om Shakti devotees have taken into custody three juveniles.
The detentions come ahead of the statements by Om Shakti devotees and Home Minister G Paramaeshwara also said on Monday that four to five juveniles were associated with the stone pelting incident that unfolded targeting the Om Shakti devotees, the Siasat TV updates.
“We will initiate action as per the law. The detained accused are aged between 15 and 17 years, and we will probe how they were provoked. Once the facts are ascertained, we will take appropriate action,” he said.
“BJP leaders have been making statements and have not stopped commenting. Whenever such incidents occur, BJP leaders intervene first. We initiated legal action even before they made statements. The accused have been detained. Apart from this, the BJP should clarify what more action they expect to be taken,” he stated.
An FIR has been registered in connection with the incident, and police said efforts are underway to gather further information. Authorities have assured devotees that the accused will be arrested. The Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) has been deployed in the area as a precautionary measure. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Yathish visited the jurisdictional police station and is personally monitoring the situation. Police said two women were injured in the incident.
Police said CCTV footage from the area was unavailable. Officials are collecting information from the spot and have identified certain suspects. Special teams have been constituted to trace and arrest those involved in the stone-pelting.
Meanwhile, devotees alleged that they have been facing disruptions for a long time, claiming that miscreants have repeatedly targeted Hindu religious events in the area, including setting fire to the venue on previous occasions.
