A major crackdown by the government has been started on alleged Rohingya and Bangladeshi people across Uttar Pradesh alongside the order of establishment of detention centers in every division of the state.
The chief minister, Yogi Adityanath, as reported by the Hindustan Times, has issued directions to 17 urban local bodies who would prepare the detailed list of illegal immigrants under their jurisdictions.
The process starts with the action plan by preparation by commissioners and IGs of dedication centers where individuals will be identified during the verification process.
“Following the chief minister’s instructions, the administrative machinery has swung into action. Verification, documentation, and field assessments have begun in several districts,” the official said.
On November 22, Chief Minister Adityanath directed all district magistrates to take swift, stringent action against illegal immigrants and ordered the establishment of temporary detention centers in every district to house those identified as infiltrators.
The officials further report that the illegal immigrants with foreign citizenship will be provided space in the centers and will be kept there until the necessary verification process is completed.
Adityanath stated that illegal immigrants held in detention centers would be deported to their countries of origin in accordance with established procedures. Uttar Pradesh shares an open border with Nepal, allowing free movement of citizens from both nations, though checks are enforced for individuals of other nationalities.
On action against illegal immigrants, Lucknow Mayor Sushma Kharkwal says, “I am feeling very good that the CM has given orders for the work that I wanted to do… We began investigating and have collected all the data from the zones… I will work on it wholeheartedly and ask every department to do the same…”
