Relentless superstition cost the life of a 7-year-old

Date:

In a heartbreaking incident at the sacred banks of Har-ki Pauri, a seven-year-old child lost his life as his parents adhered to superstitions, believing that a dip in the holy Ganga could cure their son’s cancer. The incident occurred on Wednesday, drawing attention to the dangers of unfounded beliefs in the face of medical conditions.

According to the police, the child’s parents, deep into their superstitious beliefs, were busy in chanting mantras on the banks of the revered Har-ki Pauri when the boy’s aunt allegedly dipped him repeatedly in the Ganga, ignoring his cries for help. Shockingly, the child succumbed to suffocation and drowned as the aunt persisted in her actions, ignoring pleas from onlookers.

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported the distressing incident to the local police. Har-ki-Pauri police station’s Station House Officer (SHO) Bhavna Kainthola stated that the child’s parents and aunt are currently in custody for interrogation. The SHO confirmed that the cause of death was drowning, underscoring the perilous consequences of blind faith. She emphasized that further investigations are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding this devastating incident.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for a balanced approach to health and well-being, urging communities to rely on proven medical interventions rather than depending on unverified beliefs that can have tragic consequences. Authorities are expected to delve deeper into the case to understand the extent of superstitious practices and the need for awareness campaigns to prevent similar incidents in the future.
