The only Muslim woman, Sameerah Munshi, who served on the White House Religious Liberty Commission, has resigned amid the US-Israel attack on Iran. The move comes two weeks after the attack.
Sameerah Munshi, appointed by Donald Trump in 2025, announced her resignation, citing “injustice and atrocities” by the administration both within the United States and abroad.
“My name is Sameerah Munshi. I am a presidential appointee serving as advisor to the White House Religious Liberty Commission. Today, I am resigning over the injustice and atrocities of this administration at home and abroad,” she said on X.
Furthermore, she strongly criticized the Trump administration and accused the government of being responsible for the deaths of civilians, which include children, and labeled it as a “genocidal state.”
“I am not resigning out of fear or intimidation from anyone affiliated with the Commission, the government, or any interest group. I am resigning because I have seen firsthand the injustice perpetrated by members of this commission, and I am unwilling to be associated with it any longer,” she wrote.
She said that her decision was to convey his dissent regarding the termination of Commissioner Carrier Prejean Boller. Carrie Prejean Boller was removed from her position after using a hearing on antisemitism to expand on her criticisms of Israel and Zionism.
“In this country, people of faith are having their free expression stripped away, and even their lives put at risk, because of their deeply held beliefs about Palestine , all for the sake of a Zionist political agenda,” Munshi said in her resignation letter.
“The removal of a Catholic commissioner for expressing dissenting views grounded in her faith is the exact affront to free expression and religious liberty that I spoke out against,” she said.
“I am not resigning out of fear or intimidation from anyone affiliated with the Commission, the government, or any interest group. I am resigning because I have seen firsthand the injustice perpetrated by members of this commission, and I am unwilling to be associated with it any longer,” Munshi said.
“I have seen this corrupt, dangerous administration’s disregard for American citizens and the lives of innocents, and I am unwilling to be associated with it any longer. I support America over Israel, and unfortunately, that means I cannot support Trump or this government,” she concluded.
