“Brazen violation of international law”

The Russian Defense Ministry claims Russian fighter jets didn’t employ weapons or impact a U.S. drone that collapsed after an engagement over the Black Sea.
The Ministry said the U.S. drone was passing overhead the Russian border and intruded into an area announced off limits by Russian authorities. It said the Russian military dispatched fighters to intercept the drone, which it said fell into the ocean after a fast move.
American forces had to take down the unmanned aerial vehicle as a result of a Russian fighter jet striking a U.S. surveillance drone’s propeller over the Black Sea on Tuesday in a “brazen breach of international law,” according to the U.S. military.
It appeared to be the first occasion since the height of the Cold War that a U.S. aircraft was destroyed after being hit by a Russian warplane in the encounter, which increased tensions over Moscow’s war in Ukraine.
According to White House National Security spokesperson John Kirby, national security advisor Jake Sullivan briefed US President Joe Biden about the incident. He continued by saying that representatives from the American State Department would communicate with their Russian colleagues personally and “raise our concerns over this unsafe and unprofessional intercept.”
The State Department reported that the United States summoned Russia’s ambassador to express its displeasure over the crash of an American drone over the Black Sea on Tuesday after a Russian warplane collided with it.
In order to express our grave objections to this risky, careless intercept that led to the downing of the unmanned US aircraft, “We are engaging directly with the Russians, again at senior positions,” spokesman Ned Price told reporters.
According to him, the American ambassador in Moscow has filed a “strong complaint” and the Russian ambassador in Washington has been called to a meeting at the State Department on Tuesday afternoon.
With heightened tensions over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the disaster happened.
In the words of the American military, a Russian fighter jet dumped fuel on an American drone before colliding with it over the Black Sea, causing the drone to crash. The incident was attributed by the White House to “reckless” Russian behaviour.
