The Telangana BJP chief G Kishan Reddy has declared that his party will abolish the 4% quota for certain backward sections of the Muslim community in education and employment, and increase the quota for OBC, SC and ST communities, if it comes to power in the state.
He also promised to adopt a tough stance and use bulldozers, as done in Uttar Pradesh, to eliminate the mafia, corruption and hooliganism in the Old City of Hyderabad.
The BJP has been opposing the Muslim quota for a long time. In April, the Union home minister Amit Shah had said at a public meeting in Chevella that the BJP will follow the example of the former Basavaraj Bommai government in Karnataka, and scrap the reservation for minorities and redistribute it among other deprived sections.
Kishan Reddy, who is also the Union tourism minister, was addressing his party workers at the state office on Sunday when he said: “The Congress government in the past had introduced the Muslim reservation in an unconstitutional manner and did injustice to BCs. The BRS government continued this policy after Telangana was formed in 2014. But when the BJP government is formed, we will reverse this policy and provide better reservation for other marginalised sections.”
He also criticised the AIMIM party saying: “The Congress and BRS ministers cannot even enter the Old City without MIM’s permission. There is a lawlessness in the Old City. The officers cannot do their work there. The problem is not with the people, but with AIMIM which is supporting hooligans. The BJP government will not tolerate this or any other kind of mafia or anti-social elements. We will ensure that bulldozers, like in UP, crush them.”
In another development, Nallela Indrakaran Reddy, a former MLA of BRS (earlier TRS), joined BJP along with many other politicians from district and village levels in Kishan Reddy’s presence.
