The former CM of Karnataka, BS Yediyurappa, was booked for the alleged sexual assault of a minor at his Bengaluru residence last month. The mother of a 17-year-old girl filed a complaint claiming sexual assault by the BJP politician. The Bengaluru police have launched legal proceedings against Karnataka’s former Chief Minister under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act, 2012 (POCSO).
Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara confirmed the filing of the complaint but declined to provide any details. Parameshwara added that the woman herself wrote the complaint and handed it over to the police.
“Last night, a woman filed a complaint against B.S. Yeddiyurappa. Following an investigation of the facts, the police formally recorded the complaint. “I am unable to provide further commentary on the matter until the investigation is completed,” he stated.
The police have charged BS Yediyurappa under Section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act and Section 354 A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
BS Yediyurappa is the highest-ranking BJP politician in Karnataka. He is the only politician to have served four times as the state’s chief minister and three times as the leader of the opposition.
