Himachal Pradesh, often referred to as the ‘Devbhoomi’ or land of gods, has been grappling with a significant natural disaster. In response, the people of Chhattisgarh have extended their heartfelt support to the residents of Himachal Pradesh.Baghel’s commitment to providing ₹11 crore on behalf of the people of Chhattisgarh aims to assist the Himachal Pradesh government in its efforts toward relief and rehabilitation for the victims of this calamity. The announcement underscores the spirit of unity and cooperation among Indian states during times of crisis.The rain-related incidents have exacted a heavy toll on Himachal Pradesh, with the death toll rising to 72 as of Thursday. Among the affected regions, Shimla alone accounted for 21 fatalities. The incessant heavy rains triggered landslides across various districts, exacerbating the challenges faced by the state.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted substantial rainfall in the mountainous areas of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand until August 23. Despite the recent respite in the form of lighter showers after three days of continuous heavy rainfall, the monsoon season has taken a severe toll since its onset on June 24. A total of 217 lives have been lost in rain-related incidents in Himachal Pradesh during this period.Rescue and relief efforts are underway in the affected areas, particularly in Shimla. The collective efforts of the Indian Army, Air Force, and other personnel have resulted in the successful evacuation of 2,074 individuals over the past three days. The focus of these efforts is on landslide sites and flood-affected regions, where the situation remains challenging.The impact of the disaster has also extended to the region’s infrastructure. With approximately 875 roads blocked, 1,135 transformers disrupted, and 285 water supply schemes affected, the aftermath of the heavy rains presents significant challenges to the administration.In light of the damage and ongoing rescue efforts, schools in Shimla City remained closed on Thursday. The collaboration among various agencies and states demonstrates the resolve to stand together and overcome the adversities posed by this natural disaster.
