Two men were arrested in Tamil Nadu’s Secretariat Colony on Friday for allegedly assaulting and abusing a minor Dalit boy. The accused have been identified as Saravanan, a former functionary of the BJP, and his brother, Logesh.
The incident occurred when the 17-year-old boy, a Class 12 student, visited a 15-year-old girl at her home. The two had been in a relationship since attending school together. According to reports, the girl’s relatives locked the boy in a room and called Saravanan and Logesh. The brothers then reportedly stripped, beat, and hurled caste-based slurs at the boy before releasing him.
After the assault, the injured boy returned home and informed his parents, who filed a police complaint. An FIR was registered under the SC/ST Act, along with sections for assault, wrongful confinement, and criminal intimidation.
Police stated that the girl’s mother has also filed a complaint under the POCSO Act, accusing the boy of abuse. However, no case has been officially registered against him at this time. The girl’s parents had previously withdrawn her from school and sent her to live with her grandmother to separate the pair, but they continued to communicate via social media.
