Delhi Police have uncovered that at least three schools targeted by bomb threat emails were actually victims of their own students. Among the schools that received these threats was Venkateshwar Global School, which got a menacing email just a day after a mysterious blast took place at the Rohini Prashant Vihar PVR Multiplex on November 28.
A police officer revealed that the bomb threat email was sent by two siblings enrolled at Venkateshwar Global School, who allegedly sought to have the exams postponed.
During counseling, the students confessed that they had been inspired by previous bomb threat incidents at schools, according to the officer. After a warning was issued to their parents, the students were allowed to go. Following the report of the threat, police conducted a thorough search of the school and determined that the bomb threat was a hoax.
The motive behind the threats was similar – the students wanted the schools to be closed. In both cases, the students were allowed to leave after counseling and their parents were issued warnings. Over the past 11 days, bomb threats have caused chaos in more than 100 schools across Delhi. Police have discovered that the emails were sent via a VPN (Virtual Private Network), complicating efforts to track down the culprits.
On December 13, Arvind Kejriwal, the former Chief Minister of Delhi and AAP leader, expressed serious concerns over the recurring bomb threats targeting schools in the capital. He raised alarms about the potential psychological and academic consequences for children, emphasizing that such incidents could severely disrupt their studies and well-being if they persist.
This follows a directive from the Delhi High Court on November 19, which ordered the Delhi Government and Police to formulate a comprehensive action plan. The plan, including a detailed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for handling bomb threats and emergencies, is due for completion within eight weeks.
