Minutes before the takeoff, an IndiGO flight from Mumbai to Muscat today received a bomb. As per the reports of the officials, the aircraft has been taken to an isolated bay and security checks are being concluded.
“IndiGo flight 6E 1275 operating from Mumbai to Muscat had received a bomb threat. As per protocol, the aircraft was taken to an isolated bay, and following the standard operating procedure, mandatory security checks were promptly initiated,” the airlines said in a statement.
“Customers were provided with assistance and refreshments, and we sincerely regret the inconvenience caused,” it added.
The Boeing 777 aircraft, VT-AER, departed Mumbai at 2:27 am, roughly 50 minutes behind its scheduled departure time of 1:40 am, and landed approximately one-and-a-half hours later, as per Flightradar24. Passengers were deplaned at around 4:10 am, instructed to leave their bags on board, and are currently waiting in the terminal’s holding area, according to The Indian Express.
A threat emerged only hours after an Air India flight en route from Mumbai to New York, carrying 239 passengers, was diverted to Delhi airport over a security issue.
An Air India spokesperson said that the flight has been rescheduled to the morning of October 15.
“Flight AI119 operating Mumbai to JFK on October 14 received a specific security alert and on instructions of the government’s security regulatory committee was diverted to Delhi. We confirm that all 239 passengers and 19 crew have disembarked and are currently undergoing security procedures. Refreshments have been provided to the passengers. Our staff on ground are making sure to minimize the inconvenience caused to our guests by this unexpected disruption. Guests will be moved to hotels once security protocols are completed. The flight has been rescheduled to the morning of October 15. We appreciate the patience and cooperation of all passengers. Air India is committed to and accords top priority to the safety and security of its passengers and crew,” the spokesperson informed.
As per the reports of the news agency ANI, Mumbai airport received a message the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) regarding a bomb in the flight bound for New York.
Delhi Police reports that the aircraft is stationed at IGI Airport, with all standard safety protocols being strictly followed to ensure the safety of passengers and crew. Security agencies at the airport remain on high alert.
Several airports have been targeted by bomb threats, many of which were later confirmed to be hoaxes.
On October 5, Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar International Airport in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, received a bomb threat via email. In response, the police registered an FIR. The sender also threatened to target other airports across the country.
Likewise, Vadodara Airport received a bomb threat via email on October 5, prompting a thorough search of the premises.
