Humayun Dilawar is the Additional District Judge (ADSJ) in Pakistan who gained international attention after he sentenced the country’s Prime Minister, Imran Khan, to a three-year jail term in the Toshakhana case.
After the sentencing, Dilawar left Pakistan and sought asylum in another country. The details of his departure and current whereabouts are not publicly known.
However, it has been reported by ARY News, a Pakistani media organisation that he left Pakistan to attend a judicial conference at the University of Hull in London from August 5 to 13.
It was disclosed that Judge Dilawar’s name was not initially on the list of judges scheduled to attend the conference and it was added on August 4, upon the recommendation of the Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
The University of Hull has also stated that it has no role in selecting judges for human rights and rule of law training, and that the current group’s selection was made by Islamabad High Court, Peshawar High Court, and Supreme Court of Pakistan.
Khan’s three years sentencing by Dilawar drew strong reactions from supporters of the PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) party both within Pakistan and abroad.
